  • Dr. Valerie Hedrick, Owner

For owner Dr. Val Hedrick, Mt Stuart Animal Hospital is a part of her family.  Starting at the age of 13, she worked as a veterinary assistant for her stepfather, Dr. Fred Newschwander.  She graduated with her B.S. in Biology at Washington State University and continued on to graduate with her D.V.M. in 2003 from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine.

Val lives with her husband Brauc and their two Chihuahuas, Rita and Queso, and cat Conway.  When she's not at Mt Stuart, she loves camping, fishing, reading and boating.

Leslie spent summers and holidays on her grandparents' farm on Denmark Road.  It was there she developed her love for the valley.  After 27 years away from the valley, in 2007 she finally came home.  She has a background in accounting and restaurant management.  On a health visit to Mt Stuart Animal Hospital, Dr. Val told her they were looking for a receptionist and asked if she was interested.  Her career at Mt Stuart began.  She also fosters kittens for KCFOA and the Ellensburg Animal Shelter with her Aunt Bunny.  She and her husband Devin have 9 cats and 1 cat-loving dog.  She loves gardening, traveling, reading, exploring the canyons with her cousin Dave, and learning from Dr. Val and Dr. Beach.

Stacy has been in the veterinary field for nearly 25 years! She moved to the Kittitas Valley in 2004, and her family enjoys all the great outdoor recreation the area has to offer: trail riding and camping with their horses; waterskiing and wake-boarding; and hiking, especially. She is married with three teenage daughters. Stacy is leader of the local 4H group in which her daughters participate with their horses and livestock. Her husband is Top Hand, so a great deal of his time is volunteered to get ready for the Ellensburg Rodeo on Labor Day weekend. As the newest member of Mt Stuart's staff, Stacy feels very fortunate to be here!

  • Shannon, Veterinary Assistant

Shannon started working at Mt Stuart Animal Hospital in 1994 with Dr. Fred. Although she and her family have spent a lot of time moving around the country for her husband's career, she always ends up back home at Mt Stuart. She has a BS degree in Zoology from WSU and a MS in Psychology from CWU. She has had a passion for all animals from the time she was very young and even though she has worked in other fields, working as a veterinary assistant has always been a job she truly loves. She lives with her husband, three children, three dogs, three cats and her horse and plans to remain in the Kittitas valley permanently this time.

Erin began working at Mt Stuart Animal Hospital in September 2010.  She is a Certified Veterinary Assistant, and has over ten years of previous experience as a CVA working with dogs and cats.  She is currently a double major in Psychology and Primatology at CWU (which means she is often busy monkeying around and that she is only interested in psychoanalyzing you if you walk around on all fours and are furry).  Erin is also a level three volunteer at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest, so not only is she good at monkeying around, but at aping around as well.  In her home life she has two cats as children, plants as roommates, and keeps rocks as pets.

She has a passion for all animals, including wildlife, and spent some time volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center. Originally a Nevada native, she has acclimated well to life in the Pacific Northwest, and is currently putting time into a post-bachelor degree at Central Washington University in Environmental Sciences. She is mom to an adorable red and white Border Collie named Spencer and a Springer Spaniel named Archie. She loves spending her spare time outdoors, whether it's camping, shooting, hiking, fishing, or cycling.
